People with Passion

Every now and then I think hard about what I am doing for a living. I ask myself if I am enjoying it and how it fits in to the greater scheme of things. As a speaker agent that boils down to why I think it is important to get a speaker in front of an audience to tell his or her story. For me the real answer lies in what the audience will get out of the experience. And they can only get something out if the speaker puts a whole lot in. And that lot is passion. Passion for their story or experience, passion for sharing their insights, and passion for making changes in the lives of others.

I listen to a lot of speakers and when I come away from a gig, I like to feel that the speaker has made a difference in my life, shared something with me and helped me to see the world differently.

Those are the sort of speakers we like to represent and we hope you like this month's suggestions of truly passionate speakers.

'Til next time,

Jenny

Patricia Glyn on a new adventure ..

Tricia and Dawid

Once again, Patricia has been trekking through the African wilderness in pursuit of a ghost. In 2005 she walked from Durban to the Victoria Falls in the footsteps of her long-dead ancestor Sir Richard Glyn. This year she set off for the Kalahari, to find traces of a long-dead Bushman by the name of Makai Kruiper – a legendary mystic, hunter and healer who roamed ‘The Thirst Land’ a century ago. And by her side was Makai’s grandson, Dawid, a man as legendary as his forebear. Dawid is 76 years old and is easily the most famous Bushman in South Africa, having featured in numerous films, documentaries, books and academic studies.
Patricia’s new talk is about what she witnessed on this trip: the fragments that remain in the Kalahari sand of a long-gone life; the extraordinary memory and tracking skills that helped Dawid find his grand-father’s artifacts, some 100 years after they’d been buried; the secrets that have been handed down from son to son.
But it’s also an amusing talk about a journey with a group of irreverent story tellers, free spirits, hilarious mimics and loving people.

This talk will be available from November.

Paul Naidoo is serious abut selling ( and amusing too)

Pavlo Phitidis tackles everything entrepreneurial

As an entrepreneur and director of various businesses, Pavlo offers over 20 years of direct experience in conceptualising, starting and building business enterprises in South Africa. He has brought to market business assets in excess of R1bn in the forms of family businesses, company start-ups, company turnarounds and a number of acquisitions for the purpose of company listings.

Pavlo’s success lies in his beginning-to-end view on the entire business building cycle from start-up to sale, his understanding of the challenges faced by entrepreneurs through each stage of the cycle and the dynamics of relationships within this process. Additionally, his cross-sector experience has afforded him an entrepreneurial perspective of industry peculiarities and business dynamics, both from the perspective of the entrepreneur and the corporates doing business with them.

Pavlo accesses a colourful variety of images, stories and analogies to tackle everything entrepreneurial from the family business to entrepreneurial behaviour in big business. And big business too can learn from Pavlo. Corporates need not be concerned that Pavlo will encourage staff to all set up their own businesses; his insights will encourage staff to think like entrepreneurs and leave behind the cramped thinking typical in large businesses.

Entertainment

Purple Hue is a band with versatility

...An outstanding South African band, working from a 2-piece up to a full 7-piece party band.

Formally known as Huey & da Boyz this live 7 piece outfit comprising some of our country’s top session musicians have undergone a ‘restyling’ and has emerged as Purple Hue.

There is an element of ease and malleability when playing tunes from across numerous music genres. Any evening can begin with a gentle love ballad and wrap up with a pulsating dance beat. Everything else in between ranging from music from the revolutionary 60’s, disco 70’s, the magical Motown era as well as our very own African classics and reggae. There is always a sense of timelessness with the choice of songs that form part of the repertoire. Jazz, swing and a hint of Gypsy Kings are added proportionally just to spice things up. Surely the band for any occasion.

Al Prodgers

Al Prodgers Stand-Up Comic / Emcee

South Africans are sunny, optimistic people and a smile is a tonic in the toughest of times. So, as the push to year-end kicks into high gear, why not consider adding stand-up comedy to your corporate function as a good way to cheer up your guests and motivate your staff?

Al Prodgers would love to be your comedian of choice and we think you’d enjoy him too. Here’s why…

Al’s comedy is funny. Really funny.

But he is serious too! He is serious about being properly available for your event, arriving in good time and giving you his full attention for the duration. Al does not rush clients or cut short stage time.
