Newsflash - july 2010

Banyana Banyana

August is almost upon us and its time the girls got a look in. Fortunately Women's day is around the corner and being good old South Africans, we will take the liberty of extending the day into a month long celebration of women. We have a line up of fantastic speakers to guide, encourage, motivate and empower the women in your organisation.

I hope you are organising something special for those valuable women who keep the cogs of your business oiled and running smoothly.

'Til next time,

Jenny

Nikiwe Bikitsha

Nikiwe Bikitsha is one of the country's leading radio and television news personalities. Her new role as Senior News Anchor at CNBC Africa highlights a ten year career which has featured field reporting in some of the most trying environments. After having paid her dues as a field reporter, she then managed news teams as well as anchored news at Talk Radio 702.

Bikitsha was one of the anchors of e.tv’s breakfast show Morning Edition when it launched in 2001 whilst still holding the posts of Senior Reporter and News Anchor at 702. Entertainment

Tumi Morake - comedienne

Tumi Morake is from the Free State, grew up in North West and is now based in Gauteng. She studied Drama at Wits University in 2000 to 2003. She majored in performance and writing, focussing on the comedy. Always out to learn more, her career has seen her travelling to Prague, Paris and London.

Her comedy acting began in the student production of Shakespeare’s 12th Night were she played Feste, the clown. She now works mainly in Industrial and educational theatre projects, among other things.

Tumi’s first stand up performance was scripted material for corporate events. She has since been booked for regular spots at different club venues around Gauteng. Big comedy events include Have A Heart for Child Welfare, Woodstock 2006, Arts Alive (2006 and 2007), Women In Arts (2007), Tshwane Comedy Festival, Just Bcoz Comedy fest, King Size Comedy and Blacks Only (Real Concerts).

Tumi’s comedy has been described as in your face and slightly provocative. But she’s funny, isn’t that the whole point?

She Band

Definitely one of my personal favourites, I love to recommend SHE band. Abbey has the ability to read the crowd and makes sure she keeps the modd right and the room happy.

Formed in 2004 by Abbey Artico, SHE has become a firm favourite for corporate events countrywide having performed to more than 30 000 people. With a selection of line-ups this group is adaptable to any function - large or small. With a choice of vibey Showband sets or background sets for cocktail parties and dinner events, SHE's vast repertoire covers pop, rock, jazz, tasteful ballads, disco, African and Afrikaans music making them suitable for a vast range of audiences and tastes.

Wherever they perform the evening sparkles with the exceptional musical talents of this multi-functional band.

Lira

Lira is undoubtedly one of the hottest performing artists in South Africa at the moment. Her single "Feel Good" has earned her a 2007 SAMA Award in the category Best Music Video, and enjoys more radio airplay than any other South African song. This SONY/BMG signed artist's popularity stretches beyond the borders of South Africa; her most recent performances being in Italy, releasing "Feel Good" to the European market.

Apart from the 2007 SAMA award, Lira was also nominated for the 2004 SAMA's in the category Best R'nB album, and in the same year was announced the winner of the Channel O Reel Music Award. She was also nominated for the 2004 Metro FM Awards in the categories Best R'nB Album, Best Vocalist, and Best Newcomer.

Lira's original compositions are distinctly refreshing - evoking authentic expressions of contemporary jazz, and a fusion of Xhosa and Zulu lyrics with Latin rhythms that is irresistibly intoxicating.
