Summary Profile

SANGOMA is no stranger to the music industry, as the front man of the incredibly successful group DENIM, he has had the opportunity to perform to the crème de la crème both locally and internationally, had a string of hits and performed at some of the most prestigious events in SA and produced various tracks for television.

After five years SANGOMA has finally decided to spread his wings and the result is, quite simply….

TOKYO GROOVE

….. the latest sensation on the Corporate Party circuit.

Bringing with him the wealth and knowledge that took Denim to the heights of stardom, SANGOMA now performs with a new, dynamic 7 Piece Band (2 Female Backing Singers one of which alternates with saxaphone ; Keyboards; Guitar, Bass, Drums). In just the last few month, the band have been repeatedly booked by SA’s Top Corporate Clients including Subaru, BMW, Nedbank, Exon, Tokyo Sexwale, Sun City, Pfizer, Alexander Forbes, ABSA Capital, Toyota and the list goes on.

The repertoire is extensive, the talent undeniable and the performance is mesmerising.

SANGOMA’s personal influences have always been rock and reggae and in 2007 he finally decided to follow his heart and formed BLACK BIRD. This dynamic four-piece rock band, unlike anything in South Africa, is changing South African’s perception of rock. His original tracks have a funk-rock feel to them and slip in perfectly between the well-known cover songs like Nickelback, Nirvana and Kaiser Chiefs. Throw in the odd Bob Marley song and you begin to understand why this new act is taking the market by storm.

His incredible stage presence is dynamic and his vocal ability has reached new heights, amazing audiences by switching from reggae to American rock the way one would change a cd.

Whilst SANGOMA is currently building BLACK BIRD he is still in huge demand in the corporate market and is now performing with a new corporate act - Tokyo Groove

His corporate performance, showing the incredible diversity of this artist and his understanding of the market, now incorporates two female backing vocalists as well as offering clients the option of either a 4 Piece or the incredible 7 Piece Band. Ensuring that he appeals to a wide audience and gets any corporate event dancing the night away, he plays a combination of Motown, Reggae, Pop…from Hope Joanna to My Girl.

The Corporate Show Band (7 Piece) – Focusing on the Classic Party Tracks like September, Lady Soul etc SANGOMA “fattens” up the band with two backing vocalists and a keyboard player that truly bring the music to life. A full seven piece band fills the stage and brings this artist into his element.

Corporate Performance (4 Piece) – For the more intimate events, SANGOMA performs as a four piece band and is playing guitar, something else different from before, with a lead guitarist, a drummer and a bass player. The music is cross-cultural, spans over decades and is perfect for both corporate clients and clubs alike, keeping a party rocking all night.

A new and dynamic act on the circuit, this is one to watch!
