The Laurie Levine Jazz Duo presents a soothing cross-over repertoire of swing jazz classics and African jazz standards 2007 South African Music Award (SAMA) nominee Laurie Levine, and world class jazz guitarist, Thabang Noosi, come together to offer a unique acoustic backdrop to any special occasion or function. Armed with two guitars and a poignant vocal interpretation of timeless swing-jazz classics, this duo endears listeners to its sophisticated and rich sound. Their repertoire consists of carefully selected jazz standards that range from well-known atmospheric ballads such as ‘autumn leaves’ and ‘njilo njilo’ to foot-tapping up-tempo classics such as ‘cheek to cheek’, and ‘lady is a tramp’. They are also versatile and can tailor make their set list to suit any function. Both musicians draw on their vast stage experience to create a dynamic and memorable performance. Noosi’s skillful and unique jazz guitar style has led to performances with the likes of Gloria Bosman, Louis Mhlanga and Moses Khumalo. The jazz duohave been invited to perform at some of South Africa’s most prestigious events. In 2009 the duo performed at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where they had the president and dignitaries tapping their feet to the beautiful South African melodies. They have also entertained some of the country’s top business men and women as well as some of South Africa’s most loved celebrities. In her career as a singer songwriter, Laurie has performed at the famous CBGB’s in New York and at the Forum in London, where she opened for Rodriguez. Her unique songwriting and mature vocal talent has earned her national radio play and performance slots at some of South Africa’s premier music events and festivals including an opening performance for Joe Jackson at Montecasino’s Teatro. Her new album, ‘Living Room’, was listed as one of the top ten albums of 2009 in the Sunday Times and Beeld. Now the two performers play together and the result is a stylish fusion jazz act that has become a popular choice for entertainment at all functions. The duo can also be extended into a full jazz band, with the addition of keyboards, drums, bass and saxophone. This sophisticated duo is ideal for easy-listening background music at any function.
