Steel Drums & Bass is a percussion group, consisting of 5 highly multitalented, energetic and enthusiastic youth hailing from the dusty streets of Soweto. We play the 7 piece steel drums, also known as the steel pan, a non electrical music instruments made from 50Litre oil drums. These instruments originate from Trinidad and Tobago.
Although the company started in October 2007, each member has over seven (7) years of extensive experience as percussionists respectively. We play phenomenal drum and bass rhythms, producing magnificent local Afro-jazz tunes.
With the steel drums, we can produce soothing Caribbean sounds in any genre. We are so versatile we can play any song you like, including your favorite song. We have also developed a spectacular and entertaining musical theater performance, directed and performed by all 5 members of the company. The performances will be premiered at the 2008 Grahamstown Arts Festival.
Since our inception, we have entertained at prominent restaurants and various corporate groups including the 702 Mothers Day Concert at the Zoo, to mention a few.
