CEO BUSINESS AND ARTS SOUTH AFRICA.
In 2008 Michelle Constant took the position of CEO at Business and Arts South Africa – BASA; an NPO founded both by business and government, with the aim of developing strategic partnerships between the business and arts sectors in South Africa.
Currently BASA is developing sustainable models for arts organisations, through networking, mentorship and consistent dialogue. The organisation is engaged in advocacy and lobbying both through the media environment and also in government. BASA offers research and resources to its corporate members with the vision of establishing real and equitable relationships between business and the arts in South Africa. Her work at BASA has seen her present papers at the World Economic Forum on Arts and Culture in New Orleans, MIDEM in Cannes, and the Cultural Diplomacy Conference in Spain.
Constant’s work within the South African media and arts sector over the past two decades is well recognised, as a journalist and radio presenter. She continues to host a weekly lifestyle show on national radio and writes a monthly column on the arts for a national newspaper.
In 2002 Constant was appointed to the music advisory panel for the SA National Arts Council. In 2004 she was awarded Arts and Culture Trust Arts Journalist of the Year. She has served as a judge for the South African Music Awards for over a decade, facilitated various forums and MC’d at diverse events. Most recently she was a finalist for CEO magazine “SA Most Influential Women in Business and Government: Arts”. Michelle sits on various Boards in South Africa and internationally, including the Arts Investment Fund and the Origins Centre.
