Summary ProfileGARY DEACON - GUITAR / BASS GUITAR
Gary Deacon began playing the guitar at an early age under the guidance of his father Arthur Deacon. In 1972 he was awarded the Cape Town Eisteddfod Diploma for outstanding performance on solo classical guitar. In 1981 he received a distinction in the final practical guitar examination of the Royal Schools of Music.
He has toured, performed and recorded with many local and international artists including South African jazz guitarist Johnny Fourie, U.K. saxophinist Dave O'Higgins, legendary American jazz guitarist Herb Ellis, popular international singer Helmut Lotti and multi-instrumentalist virtuoso James Morrison from Australia.
Gary is also active as a session musician and composer, having written and recorded many original tunes for the SABC and Fine Music Radio. He obtained an Artes nomination for his record "Six String Things" and an NTVA Award for the music which was composed for his first Video Animation production.
Gary is presently teaching guitar and bass guitar at the Jazz Studies Department at the University of Cape Town, and lives in Fish Hoek with his wife Sandy and daughter Nicole.
WILLIE VAN ZYL - ALTO/TENOR/SOPRANO CLARINET/PENNY WHISTLE ___________________________________________________________
Willie van Zyl is probably the most ' in demand ' musician in the Cape, not only as a ' live ' performer, but a studio musician as well. Almost every radio and T.V. jingle with sax/clarinet/penny whistle is the result of Willie van Zyl's virtuosity on these instruments !
He began his musical studies at the tender age of seven, learning to play the saxophone, clarinet, oboe and violin. Willie's outstanding musical ability was soon discovered which resulted in performances and recordings with many artists inside and outside South Africa.
He is a soloist in his own right having performed at the ' Symphonic Pop' concerts in recent years. As light music band master of the SA Navy Band, Willie has performed for many state functions which have included Nelson Mandela and President Clinton.
Our impressive award winning vocalist has already made her mark internationally with tours to France, Italy, Spain, The Caribbean, Cuba, Mexico, Tunisia and China.
She has performed with the Bejing Philharmonic Orchestra and the Andrew Young Band.
Her performances as soloist have included the KFM Symphonic Pops, The Cape Town International Film Festival and The International Joy Of Jazz Festival.
She has also performed for the 1993 Peace Concert for the release Nelson Mandela and the launch of E.TV.
In 1995 Denay received a nomination for the Argus Achiever Of The Year Award.

Jeff, who needs no introduction to the local music scene, has made his mark with a wide repertoire ranging from Frank Sinatra and Michael Buble to Stevie Wonder and Elvis Presley.
Jeff’s performances have included the Namibian Independence Ball, the Sun City International Golf tournament coinciding with the Miss World Beauty Pageant, the launch of the new VW Golf and the 25th anniversary of the first heart transplant.
Jeff’s impressive vocal style and great stage presence is without doubt a valuable part of the band.
ANDREW FORD - KEYBOARD
Andrew Ford is a talented, popular and experienced player with an important ability to
cover almost any musical style from smooth jazz to contemporary top 40 hits.
He has offered his valuable support to many artists and groups over the years and provides the ideal backing for the band.
Andrew produces and records music for film and advertising for radio and TV.
KEVIN GIBSON - DRUMS/PERCUSSION
Kevin Gibson is arguably South Africa's top session musician who provides the band with an awesome rhythmic foundation - An important ingredient for dancing. He had recorded and toured with many local and international acts including Johnny Clegg.
